LICHTSTRAHL 114 GOSPEL: John 2, 1-11 EPIPHANY 22.1.23
AND DEEP TRUST IN HIM WAS AWAKENED IN HIS DISCIPLES
If we could have more trust in the power of the true world rulers we would be far more able to master our soul life, our deeds and our decisions. But how can we get access to this very important quality of trust in our lifes? How can we make the trust grow in our helping guide - as we call Him in the Act of Consecration? And how can we trust, that we are truly free to either make Him our helping guide or choose not to.
Firstly, we have to look at certain soul qualities in our own being. How awake, how aware and how open are we towards the fact, that our heart’s light yearningly needs to meet the light of the Star of Grace, that does appear during Epiphany Time in the year. A heart, that is crumbled, discouraged and closed up by anxiety and fear cannot radiate that light and cannot meet that source of grace.
Secondly, we have to realize, that our own inner sources of strength have not yet grown enough to act without the support of an open heart, of warm feelings. We need to work on that openness and humbleness of the heart to be able to take up the tasks that are coming towards us.
Thirdly, we are constantly bringing realities into the world through what we do, through our deeds. And they determine the future. We mostly know, WHAT we are doing and HOW we should do it, but do we always realize, WHY we are doing certain things? And surely we very seldom can oversee the full picture of reality, that is connected to our deeds and actions.
Lastly, we have to take a clear decision, whom we want to follow in our lives, who we choose to be our master and teacher. Do we decide to be disciples of the Christ Jesus or of the master of the earthly world. We have to decide on that! It very clearly says at another point in the gospel, that we cannot serve two masters at a time.
The gospel of John gives us exactly these teachings in a big and lively image: the changing of the water into wine at the marriage feast at Cana in Galilee:
The mother, as an image of the soul of humanity, is awake and aware, and so she can tell Him that there is no more wine.
Jesus is aware of the fact, that he still is dependent on the support of the mother, that he does not yet have the full inner strength to fulfill signs on his own. And thus he answers: My OWN hour has not yet come! Pay heed, o woman, to the power that flows between me and you.
The servants are fulfilling the necessary deeds to make the process of transsubstantiation possible. They surely do not know WHY they are doing that, they just know WHAT to do and HOW to do it.
The disciples had made up their mind, who their master and teacher would be. The circle of 12 had shortly before been completed and they could experience the full power of a true community. In them, it is said, that the trust was awakened.
Dear friends, our soul, our heart, our realistic self conception, our deeds and our decisions are essential participants in letting TRUST grow in the signs of change and transforming. We do witness them daily, but we are deeply unconscious yet of there ongoing presence.
